From lavish dining to food stamps to prison grub. Patti Buffington — the onetime head of a West Side charity devoted to assisting prostitutes — was sentenced to a year in prison Thursday. The sentence comes 3 ½ years after she was charged with looting $479,000 from the charity and spending some of the money on swanky vacations to the Bahamas.
WENATCHEE — Food stamps fed a record number of North Central Washington residents last year — about one in seven people. “As far as I can tell, it’s higher than it’s ever been,” said Timothy Baker, supervisor of the financial unit at the state Department of Social and Health Services office in Wenatchee.

A record number of Idahoans are receiving food stamps, a sign that the state’s economy still struggles.
More than 4,000 people in Carroll and Frederick counties may currently be eligible to receive food stamps but aren’t getting them, according to Daima Swin, a specialist in the food stamp program.
Nearly one in five Americans said they lacked the money to buy the food they needed at some point in the last year.
