Prison for ex-charity boss for taking funds (Chicago Sun-Times)

From lavish dining to food stamps to prison grub. Patti Buffington — the onetime head of a West Side charity devoted to assisting prostitutes — was sentenced to a year in prison Thursday. The sentence comes 3 ½ years after she was charged with looting $479,000 from the charity and spending some of the money on swanky vacations to the Bahamas.

Record demand for food stamps in NCW (The Wenatchee World)

WENATCHEE — Food stamps fed a record number of North Central Washington residents last year — about one in seven people. “As far as I can tell, it’s higher than it’s ever been,” said Timothy Baker, supervisor of the financial unit at the state Department of Social and Health Services office in Wenatchee.

Food stamp use almost doubles in Highlands (Highlands Today)
